Seeing your temperature gauge climb or steam coming from under the bonnet can be worrying. An overheating engine should never be ignored, as continuing to drive can lead to serious and expensive engine damage. At Hobarts Garage, we help drivers throughout Kilcoy with cooling-system inspections, repairs and preventative servicing for cars, 4WDs, diesels and light commercial vehicles. What causes a car to overheat? Your vehicle’s cooling system controls engine temperature using coolant, the radiator, hoses, water pump, thermostat and cooling fan. When one of these parts is not working properly, heat can quickly build up. Common causes include: Low coolant level caused by a leak A leaking or damaged radiator hose A faulty thermostat that does not open correctly A worn or failing water pump A blocked or damaged radiator A cooling fan that is not operating Old, contaminated or incorrect coolant A blown head gasket or internal engine issue Extra load from towing, steep hills, hot weather or off-road driving Signs your car may be overheating Keep an eye out for these warning signs: Temperature gauge moving into the red Temperature or coolant warning light appearing on the dashboard Steam or a sweet smell coming from the engine bay Coolant puddles beneath your vehicle Heater suddenly blowing cold air Loss of engine power or unusual noises Coolant level needing frequent top-ups What should I do if my car overheats? If your car starts overheating, pull over safely as soon as possible and turn the engine off. Do not continue driving while the temperature is high. Never remove the radiator cap or coolant reservoir cap while the engine is hot. The cooling system is pressurised and hot coolant can cause serious burns. Allow the engine to cool completely, then arrange for the vehicle to be inspected. If you are unsure whether it is safe to drive, it is best to organise roadside assistance or a tow rather than risking further damage. Cooling-system repairs in Kilcoy A proper diagnosis is important because an overheating problem is not always caused by the radiator alone. At Hobarts Garage, we can inspect the cooling system, identify leaks and faults, check hoses, radiator, thermostat, water pump and cooling fans, and recommend the right repair for your vehicle. Regular servicing can also help uncover cooling-system issues before they become a breakdown—particularly for 4WDs, diesels and vehicles used for towing or country driving. If your car is running hot, losing coolant or showing a temperature warning light, book an inspection with Hobarts Garage in Kilcoy before a small issue turns into major engine repairs.

Is your car overheating or losing coolant? Hobarts Garage provides cooling system inspections and repairs in Kilcoy for cars, 4WDs and diesels.

New Car Service in Kilcoy

Engines that operate through internal combustion rely on large amounts of clean air to ensure the fuel burns properly and generates the power needed to drive the vehicle. At Hobarts Garage in Kilcoy, we understand how vital it is to keep your car's air filter in good condition as part of protecting your engine's health. Your engine requires extremely clean air to function efficiently. Dirt, dust, and other particles entering the engine can cause serious damage. That’s where the air filter comes into play. It ensures the air entering the combustion chambers is clean, shielding key engine components such as the pistons and cylinders from wear and damage. Why Replace Your Air Filter? Save on Fuel Costs: Your engine requires the correct balance of fuel and air to run efficiently. A clogged air filter restricts airflow, causing your engine to run inefficiently – often referred to as ‘running rich.’ This not only puts additional stress on your engine but can also increase fuel consumption by up to 10%. No one likes spending more on petrol than necessary! Protect Your Engine: Over time, air filters become clogged and weaker, increasing the risk of damage. A damaged or overly dirty air filter can allow harmful particles to enter the engine, potentially leading to expensive repairs. Benefits of Replacing Your Air Filter: Extends the life of your engine Improves fuel efficiency Reduces vehicle emissions At Hobarts Garage, we always check the condition of your air filter during every full car service. Whether it’s a major or minor service, or one that follows your manufacturer’s handbook or logbook guidelines, you can trust us to keep your engine running smoothly.

Keep your engine healthy with clean air filters. Improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and extend engine life. Visit Hobarts Garage for expert maintenance and reliable car servicing.
